The new development of polishing technology of titanium alloys

(1) Fine grinding
That is, using all kinds of conventional rubber wheel emery to make the grinding on the casting surface of titanium and titanium alloy. The problem of grinding is still that the castings can't heat. In addition, the surface of casting can't have the grinding injury, and whole surface must smooth.
(2) Barrel polishing method
The so-called barrel grinding method is that the unworked castings, grinding material, water and additives are put into the grinding groove of barrel type, and then the grinding barrell will generate rotation and vibration, at this time, there will be  friction between the mixtures of abrasive materials and unworked castings, the casting surface will be  grinded very  smooth and flat. Its characteristics are that this can't generate the dust pollution, low labor intensity, and the heat production phenomenon does not occur in the conventional grinding process. At present, the barrel grinding machine of Japan have been commercialized and used for grinding material for titanium alloy castings, other metal castings and plastics grinding for sale. After tests proved that the PK series abrasive, grinding efficiency was the highest, but the rate of surface roughness is the highest. The grinding efficiency of SA and B series of grinding material isn't as good as PK, but the surface smoothness rate of milled titanium castings is the highest. At present, The Fourth Military Medical University has successfully developed the first dental barrel type grinding machine.
(3) Mechanical polishing method
Using different specifications of soft cloth or black brush dipped the special polishing paste of titanium and titanium alloy to polish the surface ofC and titanium alloy. In the polishing processes of the titanium castings, surface contamination layer of castings and the grinding hardening layer must be cleaned completely. Or it will not achieve the ideal polishing effects.
