What are the processes of producing titanium precision castings

The casting of titanium material is the process of melting and casting of titanium material under the condition of vacuum or protective gas. The titanium alloy plate manufacturer considered that titanium material casting is one of the titanium materials preparation process.
 
Titanium castings are mainly used in aerospace industry. The important parts are: the use of engine compressor casing, blades, hollow guide, inner ring, supercharger impeller, bearing housing and bearing bracket, flying umbrella warehouse, ear piece, short beam, flap track, brake shell, control cabin with missile wing, rocket head, public bottom etc. bearing, satellite scanner, frame, barrel and so on. Titanium castings are widely used in civil industry, such as corrosion valve, pump body, impeller, marine propellers, shell, precision machine frame, cylinder body, medical prosthetic components, artificial joint, golf head, sports equipment harnesses, bicycle parts etc. Investment casting is the main technology of producing high precision, complex shape, smooth surface and dense internal titanium alloy castings. The investment casting of titanium is the same as that of the steel casting process, but it is different in the shell material and some working procedure.
 
There are three kinds of technology used in the production of titanium castings:
1.      Graphite shell process
2.      Metal surface ceramic shell process
3.      Oxide ceramic shell process
The price of first process is low, which can be used for small and medium casting production, the latter two kinds of process can be used for the production of large thin-walled precision castings.
 
The casting of titanium alloy and casting quality: Most of the deformation of titanium alloy can be used for casting, the most widely used is ofti-6a1-4v alloy. It has good casting performance and stable structure. Compared with the same component alloy, the strength of the cast titanium alloy is basically the same, but the plastic and fatigue properties are lower about 40% ~ 50%, while the fracture toughness is slightly better.
 
Titanium alloy castings are generally treated with stable annealing. The solid solution treatment and hydrogenation treatment can refine the grain, improve the microstructure and the fatigue performance of the alloy to the forging level. Hot isostatic pressing is a commonly used method for processing high quality titanium castings. Casting quality can be tested according to the national standard GB6614 or aviation standard HB5448.
